This is a college project for my Digital Illustration's class called, "Character Art."
Our goal for this assignment was to base our art on either an existing photo/character, or one that we developed on our own. This was our first assignment this semester that we got to have complete design and creative freedom. The only rule was that our Adobe Illustrator artboard should be 8.5 x 11- landscape or portrait, the rest was up to us.
So upon hours and hours of decision making, I decided to turn popstar Dua Lipa into a vector character for my project.
Before developing our Illustrator file, we were asked to have either a photo reference for drawing and color, or create a color study to help us as we were creating our digital version. Below is my photo reference.

We were also asked to submit a character sketch for our instructor's review. Below is just that.
And here is the finished piece, complete with a finished background and stage. I'm so happy with the finished outcome and how this piece turned out. From the small details in the hair, to the lighting reflections like in the glove and the microphone, I think the outcome was great!
Last but not least, we were asked to create a character art asset sheet. Below you can see the color pallet that I used, as well as a side-by-side comparison of the reference and my finished my art.
